Installation of Evidence Management System is Natural Extension of MCM Product Line

The City of Birmingham, Alabama has chosen MCM Technology to develop and install a state-of-the-art evidence management system to manage the thousands of seized and found assets that end up in the department's evidence room. MCM's proprietary Real Time Evidence Management System 5.0© is used to track and manage the complex nature and the varying paths that such assets will take while under the jurisdiction of the Birmingham Police Department. The system has been presented to the City and is in the process of being installed.

The nature of managing any police department's seized evidence and property is extremely complex. Such property could take the form of arrest evidence, found property, investigation evidence and the like. The assets being tracked requires a system that is comprehensive in its depth and breadth. A master database records and maintain all pertinent information regarding the property such as case numbers, victims, defendants, origin, case status, history of asset movement, etc. Every time a piece of property is handled, it is time-stamped and recorded electronically. Real-Time movement along with those individuals responsible for the movement or transfer of any property are tracked and recorded via bar code scanners and signature capture devices. The MCM platform provides unquestionable accountability and auditable reports, including a full history of the activity of the asset, from entry to disposition or auction. The integrated reporting tool also allows the department to manage and produce reports to track any specific trends in offenses committed, weapons used, items seized with the ability to cross-reference its property.
