City of Long Beach

Customer Profile
The City of Long Beach Wireless Communications Division ("WCD") handles the maintenance for all of the City's communications assets and infrastructure. They currently manage about 6,000 + radio and mobile data assets.

Challenge
Long Beach WCD was looking for a comprehensive Asset and Work flow management tool to improve their inventory tracking and project management capability. Prior to implementing the MCM system, a small number of the employees were using an Access database and a program called Comm Anywhere to track assets and work flow. The City also needed the ability to track work done for ongoing projects.

Solution
The MCM system provided them with an integrated, user-friendly solution that could be used by all personnel within the department for maximizing productivity and improving workflow efficiency.

Result
The City is now using MCM's Complex Asset Management Software to track assets by asset number, serial number, model number, and other user-defined information such as MDC#(programmed into unit), vehicle location, building location, owner name, etc. MCM worked with the City to configure the system so they could track maintenance on each asset by "Index Code". This is a code that the City uses to identify the Agency, Department, User, etc. of the equipment, in order to track billing amounts to be used in the budgeting process. The Project management tool provided them a way to track ongoing projects and see individual job ticket progress and track budgeted vs. actual costs in real time.

Benefits
The labor time associated with month-end billing and reporting processes was reduced dramatically. In addition, greater accountability of assets, increased technician efficiency, and more accurate data has enabled management to make better decisions.
